David H. Buchanan, Jr., MAI
As he joins the Griffon team Mr. Buchanan is currently a principal in Aspetuck Real Estate Advisory Services Inc., an independent income property consulting and appraisal practice. He works closely with individual clients, institutions and government agencies faced with difficult and unusual real estate situations. He has testified as an expert witness on real estate value and construction cost and specializes in the forensic analysis of real estate transactions.
Prior to this, he was a principal in Dorman & Wilson, Inc. after management purchased the company from European American Bancorp until the sale of the company to Legg, Mason & Company. During his tenure at Dorman & Wilson, Mr. Buchanan opened and managed the Stamford, Connecticut office of the company. During this period Dorman & Wilson was one of the largest private mortgage-banking companies in the country.
He began his career with Dorman & Wilson, Inc. as a Loan Analyst before becoming a Vice President with responsibility for coordination of work-out loans for an affiliated short-term lender, including exit strategy design and construction loan supervision.
Mr. Buchanan has been a guest lecturer at Adelphi University School of Real Estate Appraisal and Valuation and New York University. He received his B.A. in Economics from Brown University. After a tour as a Lieutenant with the 23rd Infantry Division of the U. S. Army in Vietnam, he joined Dorman & Wilson. Mr. Buchanan qualifies as a Vietnam Combat Veteran. He became a Member of the Appraisal Institute in 1984 and holds MAI Certificate No. 6866.
Mr. Buchanan was added to HUD’s list of HOPE VI expediters in the spring of 2000 and is designated as an expediter under Griffon’s current contract with HUD.
